The first thing you notice about Josh Ritter is his infectious smile, the second, his boyish enthusiasm. This is a man thrilled to be doing what he loves and it shows.

206/366 (2012): I Never Get Tired Of Grandfather

I'll admit my 365 blog is a bit OCD when it comes to Grandfather Mountain, but every time I take a picture the results are different and amazing.

205/366 (2012): Baby Watermelon

I love miniature things. These baby watermelon crack me up. I want to open one up just to see if the seeds are small too. But I'll wait. One of gardening's many lessons is patience.

Boss Hawg jams out.

My husband really knows how to throw a party.
There was BBQ, bluegrass and moonshine cherries.
It was a perfect night.

198/366 (2012): Cheerwine

My Cheerwine Story

It was my first Thanksgiving in North Carolina. I was walking around the lake with two new friends and we were talking about family traditions. The first friend told how her dad (Mr. Brown) looked forward to Thanksgiving because from the minute he woke up he started drinking Cheerwine and continued non-stop throughout the day.

I just nodded my head and made a mental note to be supportive to my new friend. After all, she was being so open about her father's drinking problem! This Cheerwine, I thought, must be the Southern version of Maddog 20/20.

Later when I learned that Cheerwine is a soft drink, I just laughed. The South had taught me yet another lesson. Bless my heart. Cheers to you, Mr. Brown. I raise my glass and toast.

Extra Cool: Cheerwine and The Avett Brothers have teamed up. Ken Taylor created the artwork for the promotional 12-pack. It includes a cardinal— the North Carolina state bird. The artwork feels a bit like the cover of Emotionalism (a most excellent release by The Avett Brothers).

Born in the South. Raised in a glass.

196/366 (2012): Bailey Takes On Neighborhood Deer

Yes, this is not the best photo I've ever taken with my iPhone, but I was being pulled by an 11 pounder in pursuit of a deer. I had to work fast to catch the action.

195/366 (2012): Teacher's and ABC Stores

For a year or two after I moved to North Carolina, I thought ABC Stores were school supply stores for teachers and homeschoolers. Later, I learned that ABC stood for Alcoholic Beverage Control. DUH! But it turns out I wasn't completely off because today I found these Teacher's hanging out in the ABC store.

193/366 (2012): Stormy Chicken

The storm last night knocked out the power for a few seconds. The micro power outage tripped the GFI socket in the garage. The freezer was plugged into that GFI. This afternoon I found the cold, but thawing chicken in the freezer. I added fresh basil, rosemary, lemon balm and oregano from the garden along with some garlic, fresh squeezed lemon and orange, salt and pepper. And voilĂ — that's how I created Stormy Chicken.

186/366 (2012): Sea Turtle Lays Her Eggs

Today on Neptune Beach, the garbage pick-up truck ran over a freshly deposited clutch of sea turtle eggs in the early morning. Luckily, the sea turtle patrol volunteers were able to find the eggs and make sure they were still intact.

I found this knobbed whelk egg case washed up on Neptune Beach and had no idea what it was until I googled "s shaped ocean life carcass Jacksonville, FL".
